Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions from our users.

Do I need to install anything on my Redmine server?
No, absolutely nothing. Kanban for Redmine is a Desktop Client App. It connects to your existing server through the standard Redmine API. It does not require server administrator privileges or complex Ruby on Rails plugin installations.
Is it compatible with any Redmine version?
Yes, it works with any Redmine instance (whether self-hosted on your own company's servers or cloud-hosted by third parties). The only prerequisite is that your administrator must have enabled the "Enable REST web service" option in the general Redmine settings.
Is it safe to enter my credentials?
Yes, 100%. Following our "Zero Telemetry" philosophy, the application only communicates between your local computer and your own Redmine server. We do not send passwords, tokens, or task data to any KumuKode intermediate servers or third parties. We highly recommend using your "API Access Key" instead of your actual password for better security.
How does the "Nested Subtasks Kanban" work?
It is one of our flagship features. If you have a "Parent" Task (e.g., 'Develop Frontend') that has 5 subtasks, you can isolate that task and see its 5 subtasks on its own Kanban board, independent of the general project. This allows you to break down work infinitely without losing agile visual organization.
How does the application update?
Currently, updates are manual. You can check our Changelog on this website or subscribe to our newsletter to hear about new releases. To update, simply download the new version from this website and install it over the old one; your settings and project data will remain intact.
Can I use it offline?
Kanban for Redmine is designed to sync in real-time with your server, so it requires an active internet connection or access to the corporate network where your Redmine is hosted. Currently, we do not offer a 100% offline mode.
What happens if I cancel my subscription?
Your access to Pro features (multi-account, unlimited timers, analytics, etc.) will stop at the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will automatically downgrade to the Free version, with which you can continue using the application but with its respective limits. You will never lose your data, as it always remains on your own Redmine server.
I have issues behind a corporate proxy
The application uses the operating system for network resolution, so it automatically inherits most global proxy settings. If the proxy explicitly blocks connections or injects self-signed certificates (SSL Inspection), you may experience SSL connection errors.
